CBR: NBA PODs 10/26
Unfortunately, life has gotten in the way again of our pursuit to bankrupt the books. After a weekend of drunken debauchery at a wonderful wedding the big bad COVID got me. So, here I sit, alone in my room like some sort of medical prisoner. Alas, I will not let it get me down. Enough with my pity party, time to make some coins.
Tonight, I am all over two plays that I believe deliver great value based on the sharp money that is currently on them. We track sharp money and its value by using a system called the handle bet difference (HBD), which is the difference between the percent money bet (the handle), and the amount of bets made on that particular side (bet).
76ers -2
Right now according to the Draftkings data, 79% of the money is on this side, whilst 69% of the bets are the side as well. With a 10% HBD, the 76ers are the side to be on. The smart money seems to be betting that the 76ers can build momentum off their first win against the Pacers and continue a hot ATS streak in which Philly won its last 4 ATS on the road in Toronto. The 76ers bench contributed 36 points in the win against the Pacers, can they continue that level of performance going into a four game road trip.
Jazz -8
HBD for the match up between the Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets is right now at 12%, with 61% of the money on Jazz -8, with just 49% of the bets on that side. The Jazz are certainly a young team, and they are coming off a much needed day off after a three game road trip. Utah did unfortunately fall to the Rockets, 114-108 just two nights ago. However, the travel fatigue for Houston and the day of practice should help the Jazz. They have solid offense, ranking 3rd in the NBA in points per game and 11th in offensive rating. This gives me confidence that they can cover the -8 number.
