CBR: Worry about the Weather this Weekend

I would like to begin this article by apologizing to all 5 of my faithful readers for not dropping a second article yesterday. Things got crazy at work; this isn’t my full-time job just yet…yet being the keyword there. However, looking at the football betting landscape this weekend, Hurricane Ian looms large, and the market has reacted. Looking at a sample size of college football point totals, we can see some pretty substantial movement. According to VSIN and DraftKings, the most notable point total movement is an 8-point drop from 56.5 to 48.5 in the Virginia vs Duke game. The forecast for Durham, the location of Saturday`s high academic brawl, is showing a 100% chance of rain. While the weather itself is a factor in the drop of the number, the indirect effects of the weather, i.e., shortened, and adjusted practice time, altered travel schedule will have effect on how the two teams perform on gameday. Now, although these two teams are not directly in the path of the hurricane...

CBR: Thursday Night Football Play

Another weekend of football is less than 24 hours away and it is time to batten down the hatches and bring home the coins! It all starts on the banks of the Ohio River in Cincinnati as the apple of the NFL`s eye, the Miami Dolphins takes on the newly uniformed Cincinnati Bengals. The Miami Dolphins come off the bus catching a cool 4 points after a big-time victory against their divisional adversary, Buffalo Bills. Now, pause just a minute, this is a red flag, why is a team on a two-game win streak an underdog, especially after they beat two NFL powerhouses in Baltimore and Buffalo? Well, the answer is easier than you think, the market simply does not believe in Miami. They see what I see and that is in both the Baltimore and Buffalo games, Miami did not beat their opponents, their opponents lost the game. Case and point would be the last weeks Buffalo game. Looking at the offensive numbers alone, it should have been a Buffalo victory easily. However, a thin Buffalo defense and exh...

CBR: CFB WK 3

Another weekend of football is upon us, and despite a rough last two weeks in both college and the NFL, I have that feeling that a hot streak is just around the corner, and it starts on Saturday. I`m only seeing green on the board this weekend, so let’s get to it. I have three games in College Football I will be all over Saturday. Notre Dame -11 Look there is no doubt that last week`s loss to Marshall in the fighting Irish`s home opener will go down as one of the worst losses in program history. With that said, all is not lost for the Irish, however it will not be easy to regain momentum. This week against the Cal Bears is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Cal is coming into South Bend with a 1-1 record ATS, that record coming against an FCS and FBS opponent, UC-Davis and UNLV, respectively. In my estimation, that is not very impressive. Despite Notre Dame coming into game with a backup signal caller in Drew Pine, I predict them to overwhelm a Cal Football team that ha...

CFBR: NFL WK 1 PLAYS

Week 1 is finally here, yes that is right, the greatest American holiday has arrived. It’s time to empty your savings, find any spare change or maybe get into your kid’s college fund. Hey scared money doesn’t make money, you could be affording Harvard by the end of today, and here`s how you’re going to do it.   Patriots +3.5 Yes, I know the patriots have struggled down in Miami, however that was then, and this is now. The Patriots have practiced all week in Miami to mitigate any weather based disadvantages. Furthermore, the familiarity between the former Flores regime and the patriots certainly aided in the patriots struggles in south beach. We also have years and years of data that Bill Belichick has dominated first year head coaches. Finally, I understand that Mike McDaniel, the new Dolphins head coach was on the 49ers offensive staffs that produced high volume, explosive offenses. However, let`s not get it twisted, the real offensive genius and authority for the 4...

2 Key Special Teams Plays aided the Gators in big-time Week 1 Cover

Games are ultimately decided by 2-3 plays, this is most certainly true at the elite levels of football. There is no bigger and more elite environment in college football then Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, conventionally known as “the swamp”, on opening weekend. It is with this backdrop that Utah Utes and Florida Gators locked horns for a SEC vs. Pac-12 matchup. The spread closed with the Utes -2.5, and that was the number we got it at. Ultimately, the Florida gators came out victorious, by a score of 29-26. However, when reviewing the statistics from game it is clear to me that the game came down to 2 plays, that’s right 2 plays.   The gators were able to put two punts inside the 20-yard line, forcing the Utes to start 2 offensive drives deep in their own territory, where the percentages of having a scoring drive on offense are significantly lower.   Add the crowd, and it would be virtually impossible to be productive offensively inside your own 20.   These 2 plays...

CFBR Week 1

Well it's that time of year, the best time of year, college football has started, and it is time to hit the ATM, ask grandma for loan or maybe even panhandle, if that what is needed to scrape together some cash to throw down on some good ole NCAA Divison I-A college football. I have three plays that I love today. It was a rough Thursday, 0-2 ATS, so these three plays will be what brings us back.  UGA -17  Yes, I know that the Dawgs have lost substantial talent to the NFL Draft, however the game is being played in Atlanta, which makes it a de facto home game for UGA. Also, Dan Lanning will be making him Oregon head coaching debut, and that is a tall enough task, much less on national television against the reigning national champions, who happen to be your previous team. I`ll back the dawgs here, -17. I just don't think Oregon will be able to match up. Utah -2.5 Kyle Whittingham is a very good coach and will have his team ready to go. Also, the Utes have a healthy amount of ret...
